Dive into the colorful world of pottery decoration in our vibrant Decorating With Color Slips Workshop! Explore 6 diverse techniques using our house-made slips, using traditions spanning centuries. From finger-painting to carving, experience the rich history of slip decoration firsthand. Your instructor will guide you through various surface methods on pottery forms provided. All materials included. Your finished pieces will be bisque-fired and glazed with our food-safe clear glaze, ready for pickup in 3 weeks. Limited to 12 students.

Beginner Level Handbuilding Workshop, Open to ages 6 and up, Family Friendly

Jump into fall with our first seasonal fall workshop. Students will make a set of decorative pumpkins using slab and coil techniques, and maybe even a friendly ghost to fit inside! Beginner Level Decorating/Painting Workshop, Open to ages 6 and up, Family Friendly

Spooky season is in full swing in our painting room.  Choose from our carefully created creepy items and learn some new decorating techniques on your pieces.  Each student will pick pieces from pumpkin plates, witches brew mugs, potion bottles, cauldrons, spellbooks and treat jars, oh my! We will demonstrate wet on wet painting to get an ombre effect, using ceramic decals and underglazes, and layering with wax resist. Learn tips and tricks to help you create cool layered surfaces using a variety of new tools and techniques. Bring a friend and a beverage and come get creepy with us!

Beginner Level Creative Workshop, Open to ages 15 and up

Join us for a great one-day brush making workshop. Students will make 2 brushes each, using different types of bamboo and natural hairs provided. These brushes can be used to apply slips, underglazes, glazes, wax resist, and oxide washes. They can also be art pieces to display on a wall or in a cabinet. Your instructor will provide each student with historical and cultural references, materials, and inspiration! Students will leave with their created brushes, the knowledge of how to harvest natural materials and found objects for future brushmaking, and the skills to create more brushes at home.

Beginner Level Handbuilding Workshop, Open to ages 12 and up

Come and create a tiny winter village with us! We will use simple handbuilding techniques, tiny stamps, and bits of wire to create and decorate a dish or bowl with a set of tiny houses and buildings set around the edge. Students can use underglazes for pops of color, and melted glass to create a frozen lake. We will provide all the ideas, tools, and products you will need.

Beginner Level Decorating Workshop, Open to ages 15 and up

Explore the basics of printmaking on clay in this hands-on workshop. Students will experiment with underglaze decals, monoprinting, newsprint slip transfers, screenprinting basics, and using stencils. Teachers will show a variety of techniques with slips, underglazes and resists to create layered, complex surfaces. Learn how to combine basic surface techniques, such as stamping and scraffito, with printed images successfully. All materials and pieces to experiment on will be included, most work on leatherhard surfaces.

Beginner Level Handbuilding Workshop, Open to ages 6 and up, Family friendly

Santa’s workshop is in full swing and so are we! Come and get your “elf on” in this holiday ornament building workshop. Each student will create a set of a dozen ornaments to bring home in time for the holidays! We have hundreds of cookie cutters, textures, stamps and ideas for your unique set, each one is guaranteed to be unique! We will have finished examples for inspiration, but each artist is free to create their own vision of the perfect decorations. Ornaments created will be fired and ready after one week, and students can take them home to paint them with acrylics, or register for our Ornament Painting Workshop the following weekend to paint them with underglazes and have them re-fired to a glossy finish. Come and start a new tradition with Suwanee Clayworks!

Beginner Level Painting/Decorating Workshop, Open to ages 6 and up, Family friendly

Suwanee Clayworks elves have been working hard to create unique ornaments for you to choose from in this fun and relaxing painting workshop. Each student will paint a set of pre-made ornaments, using underglazes to personalize their creations. Drink some hot cocoa and listen to some holiday music while you paint pieces that you can enjoy for years to come. We will have everything needed to create some souvenirs as well as memories.
